One of the good things about having to code as you type and an interface without spellcheckers is that it requires you to slow down and do less off-the-cuff style of posting.
RSS feeds were the best way to follow and interact with sites that had updating content. You choose what you want to follow and the feed offers it to you.
XMPP+OTR is the best messaging standard there is which is why all the big players disabled it and went to propritary apps and standards that we can't interact with.

Y'all are showing how brand-new you are with this panic over PlayStation ending physical discs. You have never owned software. Viceo games, Operating systems, applications, etc, since the invention of the EULA. You have licenced every game and other piece of software. Physical stand alone copies, grant you access not ownership. Generally EULAs have a revokablity clause where they can just deny you access unilaterally to the software you licensed. For video games especially, after PlayStation2, pretty much every non-Nintendo physical copy needs day1 patches to be playable. If those servers aren't there or don't respond, you might have a broken game or simply a stub installer that can't get a response when it tries to download the game you thought you owned. Open Source software is generally a little better at allowing sopying and setting up usable copies from the start, but you don't on that either. The GNU license is still a license. This has been the paradigm from the start, masked because most people could ignore it because it was impractical to enforce. But the companies that actually own the software have tried to shut down second-hand markets before and consumer advocates have been telling people to buy physical copies and make backups for decades. The software owners have been building this system since Valve made STEAM. Statistically, y'all have shown them that you're ok with it.
